WEATHER CONDITIONS/TEMPERATURE

August is New Mexico’s rainy season, which means it can rain, not that it will rain. Every dawn typically begins with clear skies and temperatures in the 60’s and peaks in the low to mid-90’s. In the late afternoon, we will be treated to beautiful cumulus clouds and gathering thunderheads. It will rain somewhere in New Mexico nearly every day in August, but not necessarily where we are. The clouds and approaching twilight make for a beautiful light that has drawn artists to New Mexico for centuries. If it does rain, it can rain with sudden force, so be sure to take cover, and if driving, to avoid arroyos (washes.) The altitude is about one mile high in Albuquerque, about the same as Denver. The altitude in Santa Fe or Taos is 7000 ft, in the mountains about Santa Fe, 13,000 ft., and atop the Sandia (watermelon) Mountains by Albuquerque, 10,000 feet.
